Zen Buddhist Service
This event presented to you by
On June 19 at 12-1pm
Repeats? Every other Sunday Every Month
Please join us for a bi-weekly Zen Buddhist Service in the style of Korean Zen led by Dharma Teacher Hwa Son Josh Plucinski from Still Point Zen Buddhist Temple in Detroit.
Korean Zen, properly called "Son," has a distinct flavor that is earthy, unpretentious and, quite often, filled with humor.
When you arrive for the service, please remove your shoes before entering the meditation space. When entering and exiting space, we typically bow with our hands palm-to-palm toward the altar as a way to respect our own efforts to awaken as well as the efforts of those around us. We ask that people wear clothes that are comfortable, relatively modest, and that aren’t too distracting — no super-bright colors, t-shirts with writing all over them, etc. We will have a limited number of cushions available, so if you have your own, please feel free to bring it, otherwise there are also chairs available.
The service last about an hour: there’s a 20 minute meditation sitting; then we stand for a brief chanting of the “Three Refuges”; another ten minute sitting or group chanting; and then the service ends with a teaching or Question and Answer. And then, afterward, everyone is free to stay for informal mingling, tea, etc., which is also a great time to pull the teacher aside for any additional questions you may have.
